Introduction

Hi!  My name is Cyndi. I was just recently married to my best friend. I graduated from college this May with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature. Literature and writing are two of the biggest passions in my life. I love sitting down to chat about a good book (with coffee, of course!).

I’m currently finishing up the coursework on a Masters in Teaching. I love education. It has the potential to truly change a person’s life long-term. There are so few ways to make a meaningful and life-changing impact on a person and I believe education is often the cornerstone to self-betterment. However, the art of teaching continues to evolve as our lifestyles evolve. And thus, the need to traverse the ways that technology can affect education.

I use technology very regularly in my own life. I have a smart phone and access the internet both on my laptop computer and phone daily.  I enjoy using the internet to keep in touch with friends and family through email, Skype and Facebook. I also really like using the internet to bargain shop (I love great deals!) both for coupons and online shopping. In my spare time I like to stream movies online, and at home even have the DVD player wirelessly connected.  For school and work, I use word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and publishing software. Technology is commonly used in my life.

Technology was used throughout my schooling career. In elementary school, I attended a rural school and there were not many computers in the building. However, there were a few that we were allowed to play games on during down times. In high school, I attended a suburban school with two computer labs. Computers were in every classroom for the teacher. However, even though the technology existed the servers were old and slow, which often made using the computers much more of a hassle than a convenience. There has to be a balance to technology. It can be helpful in the classroom, but it should serve a purpose farther reaching than simply the use of technology.

Join me on my adventure as I explore teaching technology, its purpose and usefulness.

  1. I, too, love a chat about a good book with coffee:)

I was teaching during the years where servers were slow and technology was a hassel. But, everything was new and exciting. The students were so engaged. But, it wasn't always worth it. Technology progresses so quickly, that all "new" technologies can be a hassel. The good teacher knows when it is worth it and when to move on without it. That is my hope; To help prepare teachers with wisdom about when and how to use technology.

  2. I think it is very important for teachers (and everyone) to be able to realistically weigh the pros versus the cons when it comes to technology integration and use. Yes, often the technology is new and exciting, but at what price do we push technology? If the technology is more efficient it is a much easier question. However, there needs to be a balance to give a well-rounded education and experience.
